Autonomous Underwater Drone Development

Project Scion is an underwater robotics initiative developed within the San Diego State University Mechatronics program, focused on building a compact underwater drone capable of stable navigation and environmental sensing. The system integrates propulsion control, onboard electronics, and waterproof mechanical design to operate in submerged environments. The platform also explores computer vision and object detection, enabling the drone to identify underwater subjects and capture stabilized visual data. This capability connects the system to potential applications in underwater media production, photography, and cinematic exploration, where autonomous robotics can assist in capturing unique visual perspectives beneath the surface.
